Almost Home

We spent last night right on the Utah Nevada border. I could have literally thrown a rock across it from our trailer. It rained most of the night and hard at times. But when we got up this morning and looked out side…

So obviously we thought that we were in for a sunny day, but that’s not exactly what we got. It rained off and on during the day and it still is.

While the sun shines we look for interesting thing to take pictures of but with limited success.

And of course, when it’s raining who wants to get out and take a picture. Besides, this is what there is mile after mile.

For a while we thought this was about all the fall color we would see in Nevada.

But if you look real hard in the middle of this mountain there is some great fall color. The only problem is it’s probably at least 5 miles away and that’s as close as you can get.

But that’s OK because there was plenty of road to look at.
Any way we’re in Reno tonight and we’ll be home early tomorrow. We had a great trip, visited with great friends, saw some great sites took lots of pictures and had a good time together. And tomorrow will will be happy to be home again.

Utah–Life Elevated

Well that’s what the sign says.

Lets see if it’s true.

This looks pretty elevated. This is another one of Connie’s 65mph shots.

This thing is elevated too. Also a 65mph shot.

Would you believe this is the view from a rest stop.

Self portrait at the rest stop.

We had such beautiful weather today. Just a few showers but the clouds were as beautiful at times as the mountains.

We really weren’t expecting fall colors in Utah but guess what…

We ran into some spectacular color spots. We could see some high mountain aspens turning yellow but they were to far away and not accessible.

Then we came up on these bright color spots right beside the freeway but before we could stop they were well behind us and there was nowhere to turn around.

Here’s why there was not u-turn plus an interesting tunnel and some of the color.

We decide to go back and ended up back tracking about 15 miles in order to get these pictures but they seemed worth it to us.

Not the quantity of color that we saw in Colorado but the brightness and variety of colors was incredible.

Then just before we stop for the night, and when we think we’ve had a great day of scenery, we get treated to this view.

Fall Colors

This morning we left Durango, CO and headed north. The whole idea of this route was to catch the fall colors in the San Juan mountains.

The plan worked! And it took us all day to go 168 miles.

We learned how to create a 4 way stop with just one post while we were in Silverton today. The town was built in 1820 and what that has to do with the single post 4 way stop I don’t know. I’m just throwing it in.

There were lots of threatening clouds today but usually when we need sun for the pictures we had it.

I’d have to say the timing for fall colors was about perfect. What would you say?

When we finished taking pictures and were leaving the mountains it started to rain on us.
Now we’re headed home but I hope we can still pick up some interesting pictures each day till we get there.

Up in the air about what to post.

We got up at 3:00 AM to go to the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. Was it worth it? Absolutely!

It draws over 800,000 visitors and is the most photographed event in the world.

There were almost 600 balloons there today and they set a new worlds record by launching 345 in one hour.

I took 440 pictures and the hardest part was deciding what to post.

The weather was perfect. Some of the locals told us this was one of the best Fiesta launch days they’ve had in years.

We had a lot of interesting characters as well as the beautiful colored balloons.

The sky was literally filled with balloons.

The launch was over pretty much by 9:00 so we left and got on the road again and tonight we’re in Durango, CO. So tomorrow I’m off to capture some fall colors in the San Juan mountains. Is this good or what.
