The Blue Ridge Parkway

Last night we had a cloud burst. The rain was suddenly pounding on the roof so hard it woke us both. It continued to sprinkle through the night and into the morning.

We started down the Parkway enjoying all of the sights within 40 or 50 feet of our windows.

That went on for a couple of hours and then…the sun appeared.

It came and went the rest of the day but we were able to begin sight seeing.

The bad news is that we’re a week or two to early for the best color but we gleaned all we could find.

I’d love to get this shot when the colors were in full glory or in the spring when the thick Rhododendrons were in full bloom.

You can see this ridge is starting to look pretty good and there were several  that we couldn’t really see from the road.

This is Linville falls. The water is high but muddy from all the rain and there was no color there yet. I had to walk a mile and a half for this one.

Just another pretty face, rock face that is.

And now we sit backed up to a river in Asheville ready to head West in the morning.
