The Great Smoky Mountains

Yesterday I didn’t blog. I didn’t have any pictures for one thing and I spent the whole evening editing and loading wedding pictures on my website.

Today Uncle Dave got us off to a good start with some cheap gas. Down the road a ways I actually saw some for $3.25.

We were headed for the Smoky Mountains. There have been many spots where this ivy covers every thing including the trees. I finally got a picture of it although we saw some better spots but couldn’t stop.

The scenery here was not disappointing even though it was a little bit overcast.

The folks around here seem to love Halloween and there are already decorations everywhere. This was not the most elaborate one either.

There was just enough fall color sprinkled about to tease us. We see yellow quite a bit and there were a number little patches of bright red here and there. I can only imagine how incredible it will be in a couple of weeks.

Even the green is spectacular though. There were patches of green that were so bright they looked neon.

We read that the reason they’re call the Smoky Mountains is because of the fog the often hangs in and around them and that’s exactly what we saw.

We also traveled the Blue Ridge Parkway for about 15 miles today.  Gee, I wonder why they call them the Blue Ridge Mountains.
For reason I won’t explain now, we are headed to Myrtle Beach, SC tomorrow.
